During the first Covid-19 lockdown, businesses suspended advertising on the billboards across the Tel Aviv metropolis. Stripped of their brand names, products, and smiling faces — and all the carefully calibrated connotations that those images carry — the boards now invite different interpretations; Some became reminiscent of Kubrick’s monoliths from “2001: A Space Odyssey”, or perhaps huge smartphones that had finally run out of battery. Post October 7th, this series has taken on a new profound and disturbing meaning.
